STOBER increases the performance of its rack and pinion gearboxes through optimized microgeometries and new FEM calculation models. This is confirmed by an extensive series of tests.

More power for precise linear actuators

STOBER increases the performance of its rack and pinion gearboxes:

With its rack and pinion gearboxes, STOBER offers compact, dynamic solutions for linear motions. Thanks to new FEM calculation methods and optimized microgeometries, the drive specialist is now significantly increasing their performance. The results have been validated in extensive test series. Users benefit from higher feed forces with the same compact design. This opens up more options for space-saving machine concepts, especially for large machine tools.

Pforzheim, 10.06.2026 – STOBER has further increased the performance of its rack and pinion gearboxes – a combination of the proven PH planetary gearboxes and ZTR and ZTRS pinions for sophisticated drive concepts or use in feed axes. Depending on the size, the maximum feed forces can now be up to 20 percent higher than before. This strengthens STOBER’s ability to compete on the market.

The higher values are based on new FEM calculation methods that examined the loads from the interaction of the torque and pinion forces in more detail. STOBER also improved the microgeometry of the toothing and validated the results in extensive test series. The optimizations are part of the continuous further development of the mechanical drive components in terms of power density, dynamics and process reliability.

STOBER rack and pinion gearboxes deliver feed forces up to 124 kN, making them particularly suitable for large machine tools and machining centers. This enables the company to respond optimally to the growing demand for these powerful and compact solutions in international markets without having to pass cost increases on to customers.

For mechanical engineers, the higher performance yields concrete advantages. In many applications, smaller sizes can be used, which reduces installation space, weight and costs. At the same time, the axis systems become more dynamic. This enables more compact and economical machine concepts, especially for large portal machines with several synchronized drives. The higher performance values have already been incorporated into STOBER’s catalogs, design tools and online configurator.

With its extensive product portfolio, STOBER offers maximum flexibility for implementing linear motion with high precision – the motor, gearbox, pinion and gear rack allow custom combinations.
